I offer courses for adults, and also for children and teens, as well as workshops. My classes focus on honing the skills one needs to use in order to inject personality into their art worlds.

| Cartoonists and illustrators use their creativity and imagination, as well as drawing and writing skills, to create worlds that viewers want to enter again and again. In this very practical hands-on course, students learn how to take an idea from concept to completed cartoon or illustration. Students learn how to create their own single-panel cartoons and illustrations, as well as multi-panel cartoons and illustrations. They learn basic shading techniques and discover many ways to make their characters come alive. Students discover how our minds process humour and visual presentations, and why cartoons and illustrations stick with us for so long. They also learn the many uses for these very creative and versatile art forms. Beginners are welcome to this introductory course. | |||||

SPRING 2011 COURSES FOR CHILDREN AND YOUTHS
CANTERBURY COMMUNITY CENTRE, OTTAWA
Please Note: Course registration will be on Thursday, March 31 (7-9 p.m.) and Saturday, April 2 (10 a.m.-noon), at Canterbury Community Centre, 2185 Arch Street, Ottawa. The spring schedule will be announced soon, at http://www.cca-acc.ca/index.htm .
Creative Drawing and Painting: From Shapes to Finished Art. (8 to 13 years)
Course Runs: Saturdays from 10:15 to 11:15, 8 weeks, April 9 to June 11. (No classes April 23 or May 28).
This course is great for children who like to draw. In this course children learn to stretch their imagination and creativity using pencils and paints. They learn pencil and paint techniques, and are introduced to the versatility of these mediums. Creative exercises encourage them to draw what they see, and also express themselves artistically as the unique individuals they are.
Supply fee $20 cash payable at registration.
Introduction to Creative Cartooning: Inventing Characters and Worlds. (9 to 13 years)
Course Runs: Saturdays from 11:15 to 12:15, 8 weeks, April 9 to June 11. (No classes April 23 or May 28).
This course is great for children who like to draw and also for children who like to write and create characters and worlds. Children start learning the many types of cartooning, and how to create their own cartoon characters and cartoon worlds. They also learn how to build their cartoon worlds, and how to make their characters live by giving them interesting things to say and do.
No supply fee, but to each class please bring: a regular pencil, eraser and pencil sharpener, a black fine point pen and medium point pen (Sharpies are good); plenty of whatever paper the child likes to draw on—printer paper is fine.
Mad Skills Cartooning: Summer Career Sampler for Youth 12 to 17 years
Third year for this popular Cartooning Career Sampler!
Each sampler runs for one week, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Algonquin College, Woodroffe Campus, Ottawa, ON. There will be two samplers offered, and they will be held on the first two weeks of July: July 4 to 8, and July 11 to 15, 2011.
